NC READS

Where every child is a good reader

NC READS is focused on improving the reading skills of our community’s poor and minority children starting at birth. With NC READS, parents will learn specific ways to talk, listen, play, and respond to their child. Interacting with their child in these ways lays the foundation for developing literacy and other skills early in life.

One of our tools sent text messages to parents with tips for “serve and return” interactions at any age, starting at birth, and based on the child’s birth date. Parents will receive a text on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. These photos show all three messages in a single screen.

NC READS partners with community organizations to enhance existing trusting relationships with the target parents. Our goal is to enroll as many parents of infants and toddlers into the free program as possible. The texts are free to parents.
